Project

HOMES Nepal

Overview

While access to safe housing and housing finance is a proven pathway to poverty reduction, lack of adequate financial products and services in Nepal means that this has not been a viable option for most of the population. Low levels of financial literacy and recurring climate disasters compound these challenges, trapping families in a vicious cycle of housing inadequacy and poverty.

HOMES Nepal is a 45-month- project that aims to improve financial security, housing adequacy, and economic prosperity for low-income families by enhancing access to inclusive and affordable financial products such as Housing Micro Finance (HMF) loans, Home Green Energy (HGE) loans, and Housing Micro Insurance (HMI). On the supply side, it will strengthen the capacity of microfinance institutions (MFIs) and insurance companies to design and deliver affordable, client-centric financial products that will enable families to build a more resilient and prosperous future. On the demand side, the project will build digital financial literacy of families, with a special focus on reaching women, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups, empowering them to access and utilize financial services for housing improvements and risk protection. Trainings and outreach will be delivered through local community facilitators and youth-led 3 Zero Clubs to promote financial literacy, digital financial services (DFS) and informed financial decision-making.

Key Outcomes

HOMES Nepal intends to reach 256,500 unique individuals (70% women) who will utilise new financial products.
